Smile Theatre brings its showcase performance of At the Hop to Uxbridge for all members of the public Saturday, April 14. The theatre usually offers two general public shows a year, but this is the first time its being performed outside Toronto. The show supports the theatre and the seniors it serves. Smile Theatre, the only professional non-profit theatre company in Canada dedicated to performing for senior citizens, was formed to address the need to entertain seniors who may be bedridden, confined to a hospital or financially unable to buy a ticket. Each year it offers fixe original productions, often performing twice a day in more than 400 shows over an 11-month season, to approximately 40,000 seniors. The company has performed previously at the Uxbridge Seniors Centre on Marietta Street. The musical At the Hop is an original work that takes the audience back in time with a walk down memory lane, featuring songs such as: Why Do Fools Fall In Love?, Great Balls Of Fire, Chantilly Lace and many more. The story is a light-hearted romance. Elroy loves Suzie but Suzie loves Frankie...will true love prevail at the hop? The Uxbridge show is one night only, starting at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20.
