Artist Biographies
Mark Allan
Mark is so happy to be performing for all of you again. The last time you saw him performing here was in Stardust Circus. Mark has been performing all over Canada and the U.S.A. for the past 11 years, and truly believes that “Smile” audiences are the warmest and most appreciative audiences he has ever played for! He is very excited to be working with such great people on this show. He dedicates his performance to the memory of his friend Tom Kneebone. Miss you T.K.!
Rob Torr
Rob loves coming back to Smile. Rob and his wife have just bought a house. His most recent credits are, I Love You You’re Perfect Now Change, and Forever Plaid. He is close to completing a couple of new musicals, Noah and Nickleby.
Bill Brillinger, Stage Manager
Girl Crazy marks the beginning of Bill’s fourth season with Smile. Other Smile credits include Os De Genou: The Saga of Tom Kneebone, Fred & Adele, Has Anybody here seen Willy?, Consider This Lillie, Tonight We Raid Berlin, Sweethearts and Two on a Toonie. He spent the summer seasons of 2001 and 2002 in Nova Scotia with Ship’s Company Theatre, and was fascinated by the enormous tides in the Bay of Fundy. He has toured with a production of Bush Ladies, a show about the early experiences in Canada of Susannah Moodie, Catherine Parr Traill and Anne Langton. Bill is delighted to be back with the wonderful audiences of Smile Theatre.
Daniel MacDonell, Writer and Director
Daniel has worn more than a few hats for Smile Theatre (literally and figuratively!). You might have seen him first, appearing in At the Hostess in 1998. He then continued with Smile as a Stage Manager for the productions Son of Remade in Canada, Stardust Circus, Home for the Holidays, and Everthing’s Coming Up Rosie. He is excited to continue entertaining Smile’s audiences as Playwright and Director of Girl Crazy. Daniel received his BFA in Acting at the School of Dramatic Art at the University of Windsor. Since graduating in 1991, he has worked in many aspects of theatre; Musical Theatre, Dramas, Classical Theatre, Clown, and Opera. As a performer, he has appeared in Les Miserables in Toronto and Ottawa, and two seasons at The Stratford Festival. He has performed across Canada in productions as varied as The Mikado in Victoria, BC, and Aristophanes’ The Clouds in St. John’s Newfoundland. Thanks to Tom Kneebone for the inspiration, and Tom Carson for the encouragement.

David W. Smith, Choreographer
Since receiving his BFA in Musical Theatre from the University of Windsor, David has been working professionally in the theatre as both a performer and choreographer. Recent choreography credits include A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum and Forever Plaid (Sudbury Theatre Centre) and 42nd Street (Drayton Entertainment). As a performer, David spent four seasons with the Stratford Festival, appearing in both the musicals and the classics. He has also worked with Drayton Entertainment, Theatre By The Bay, Disney Cruise Line, and, most recently, he played the role of Harry in the Port Hope Festival Theatre's production of My Fair Lady. David is thrilled to be working for the first time with Smile Theatre, and hopes that you will enjoy the show.

Michelle Blore, Set, Costume, and Props Design
This is Michelle’s third season with Smile having designed Everything’s Coming up Rosie, Home for the Holidays, Has Anybody Here Seen Willy? and Consider this Lillie. She is a proud graduate of York University’s Theatre Design Program. Her recent design credits include Market of Tales with Artword Theatre, The Train with Thirty Below Theatre, Klapps Trap with Film@York, Fillin’ the Blank with Arts Etobicoke and Expect Theatre and puppets for the film Labrats. She is delighted to be returning to Smile and looks forward to every bright moment shared with them.

Mark Rutherford, Arranger
Mark is a Canadian musician originating in Winnipeg who enjoys a multi-faceted career, participating variously as Pianist, Keyboardist, Composer, Musical Director, Producer, and Accompanist. Professional associations with Dinah Christie, Dianne Heatherington, Buffy Ste. Marie, Louise Pitre plus a two decade involvement in the Toronto theatre scene has enabled him to encompass a broad range of musical styles. His career has included a year-long regular stint on CBC’s Morningside, many TV and radio appearances, film and recording credits. Besides numerous cross-Canada trips, touring opportunities have taken him throughout the U.S., across Europe, and to the Middle East. Since 1990 he has provided Musical Direction and recorded arrangements for over 50 productions for Toronto’s Smile Theatre, and composed for and performed with his jazz group MRQ at festivals and concert events. He anticipates another action-packed 2005-06 season with the Smile Theatre.
