Artist Biographies
Shawna van Omme
Shawna is very excited to be a part of the “Smile Theatre” experience once again. She has performed at the Charlottetown Festival in such shows as; Anne of Green Gables – the Musical, Canada Rocks, Something Wonderful, The Happy Prince, Dracula: a Chamber Musical and Somewhere in the World. She just recently performed and music directed at The Upper Canada Playhouse in A Christmas Carol. Last Christmas she was the Musical Director of Jack and the Beanstalk at The Gayety Theatre. She is a recent graduate of Sheridan College in their Music Theatre Performance Program. This performance is dedicated to the audience. Enjoy!
Jade Elliott
Jade is thrilled to be making his Smile Theatre debut. Born and raised in Calgary, Jade began his performing career at the tender age of five; 25 years later he is still pursuing his dream! Jade has had the opportunity to work with many greats such as Carol Burnett, Tracey Uhlman, Tommy Smothers, Edward Hibbert, the wonderful Julie Andrews, and had the opportunity to work on almost every continent on the globe. Jade would like to thank everyone at BRB, Mom, Krista, and Margot for getting the ball rolling. And always, to his heart, Brenley, “you make it all worthwhile. I love you.” Enjoy the show.
Joy Prime, Stage Manager
Joy is delighted to return to Smile to Stage Manage At the Hop. She’s had an absolute hoot of a time working with the wonderfully talented team, and hopes that you’ll enjoy the show. In 2006, Joy Stage Managed Popcorn Princess and Make ‘em Laugh. She also Stage Managed three shows at Upper Canada Playhouse in Morrisburg, and ventured out to beautiful Alberta and BC on vacation with her husband Steve. Other Stage Management credits include: the Stratford Festival, the Canadian Opera Company, the Grand Theatre (London), Persephone Theatre in Saskatoon, and Ontario Special Olympics. Joy would like to thank her husband Steve, who is the light of her life.
Carson, Thomas, Director
Carson, Thomas (Tom Carson) is proud to be the General & Artistic Manager of the wonderful Smile Theatre. As a director, his work has appeared across Canada, winning the hearts of audiences from Montreal to Vancouver. He has received critical acclaim as well, including three nominations for “Outstanding Production – Theatre For Young Audiences” at Toronto’s prestigious Dora Awards. Tom also writes for the stage, as well as, poetry for young children. He is married to wife, Stephanie and has a son, Jonah and a daughter, Samantha. He lives in Milton, Ontario.

Sandra Margolese, Writer
Sandra is excited to be writing again for the marvelous Smile Theatre. She has worked on a dozen shows for Smile: as an assistant to the late Tom Kneebone, as a director, writer, actor, concert singer and administrator. Other performing credits include: Phantom of the Opera (Pantages Theatre), Pirates of Penzance, Mikado, and Vaudeville (Drayton Entertainment), The Music Man (Theatre Aquarius), and Fiddler on the Roof (Huron Country Playhouse). Sandra lives in Dubai with her husband, Dave.

Wayne Gwillim, Musical Arranger
Wayne is pleased to be working with Smile Theatre again, having recently provided arrangements for Make ‘em Laugh, Radio Daze, Popcorn Princess and How to Get Rid of a Monster. Music direction credits include john & jen and tick, tick…BOOM! (Acting Up Stage); Cotton Patch Gospel (Georgian Theatre Festival); Falsettos and Berlin to Broadway with Kurt Weill (Theatre Sheridan). Wayne serves on the faculty of Sheridan College and the Randolph Academy of Performing Arts as an accompanist and vocal coach. Originally from Saskatchewan, he is a graduate of the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Music.

David W. Smith, Choreographer
Since receiving his BFA in Musical Theatre from the University of Windsor, David has been working professionally as both a performer and choreographer. For Smile, David has choreographed Girl Crazy, Good Morning Cottage Country, and Popcorn Princess. Other choreography credits include Little Shop of Horrors, A Funny Thing Happened... and Forever Plaid (Sudbury Theatre Centre) and 42nd Street (Drayton Entertainment). As a performer, David has appeared throughout the country, including four seasons with the Stratford Festival. Most recently, he played the role of Fagin in the Stirling Festival production of Oliver. David is thrilled to be working again with Tom and Smile Theatre.

Jennifer Triemstra, Set, Costume and Props Design
This is Jennifer’s second season at Smile Theatre and she is thrilled to be back. For Smile, Jennifer has designed set and costumes for this season’s Radio Daze and Make ‘em Laugh, as well as, Beautiful Dreamer, Christmas Lillies, Honey Bun, Mona Parson, Two on a Twoonie, Sweethearts and Son of Remade in Canada. Recent credits include costume and set design for The Fairy Queen (Toronto Masque Theatre) and Iris the Dragon (Workman Theatre) and costume designs for Blyth Festival, Festival of Classics and Theatre Passe Muraille. Jennifer is part-time faculty at York and Ryerson Universities.
