Artist Biographies
Andrew Scanlon
Andrew is a returning Smile performer who has starred in Mona Parsons, Love Knots and Lariats (The Wilf Carter Story) and three installments of Tom Kneebone’s Made in Canada cabaret series. Recently Andrew has been directing and performing in his first work as a playwright, Come Fly With Me (Showboat Festival), as well as performing in War (Magnus Theatre), Over the River and Through the Woods (Globe Theatre), Cotton Patch Gospel (Georgian Theatre Festival), and Moliere: League of Hypocrites (Talk is Free Theatre). In the new year, Andrew returns to Regina for the new Canadian play Dogbarked at The Globe. Thanks to his buddies Daniel and Tom for this opportunity to share another Smile “Experience”.
Laura Bonesteel
Laura is very pleased to be a part of Radio Daze, her first show with Smile Theatre. Laura graduated from Sheridan College’s Music Theatre Performance Program in spring 2005. Most recently she played Fritzy in the Stage West production of Cabaret. Other credits include Prissy Andrews in Anne of Green Gables (Stage West), dancer in the Home Sweet Home...less benefit show (Princess of Wales), lead dancer in Sweet Charity (Theatre Sheridan) and Marian Paroo in The Music Man (Theatre Sheridan). Laura is thrilled to be performing for you today and thanks the wonderful people at Smile for this opportunity.
Daniel MacDonell, Writer and Director
Daniel has worn more than a few hats for Smile Theatre (literally and figuratively!). You might have seen him first, appearing in At the Hostess in 1998. He then continued with Smile as a Stage Manager for the productions Son of Remade in Canada, Stardust Circus, Home for the Holidays, and Everthing’s Coming Up Rosie. He then wrote and directed last year’s Girl Crazy, which received fantastic response from Smile audiences. Daniel received his BFA in Acting at the School of Dramatic Art at the University of Windsor. Since graduating in 1991, he has worked in many aspects of theatre; Musical Theatre, Dramas, Classical Theatre, Clown, and Opera. As a performer, he has appeared in Les Miserables in Toronto and Ottawa, and two seasons at The Stratford Festival. Radio Daze is dedicated with great affection to all the Normans of Newfoundland; specifically Aimee – thank you for your love and support.
Allison Plamondon, Choreographer
Allison Plamondon is a Toronto based choreographer, performer, and teacher. Choreography highlights include Street Re-Stamped for Something Wonderful (Charlottetown Festival), Downtown (Summerworks), Godspell (Mainstreet Theatre), The Boys (Theatre Sheridan), and most recently, Hello Again (Tarragon Theatre/Extra Space). Besides teaching her own series of Tap classes in Toronto, her own Tap work has been showcased in fFIDA 2004 (Urban Matinees), Twelfth Night: the coming of a new Don (Equity Showcase), the Maud Whitmore Benefit concert (Charlottetown Festival), and Physically Speaking at The Quilt (a fundraiser for breast cancer, Stratford). Allison is on the faculty at Sheridan College and Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts.
Wayne Gwillim, Musical Arranger
Wayne is pleased to be working with Smile Theatre again, having recently provided arrangements for Popcorn Princess and How To Get Rid of a Monster. Music direction credits include the john & jen and tick, tick…BOOM! (Acting Up Stage); Cotton Patch Gospel (Georgian Theatre Festival); Falsettos and Berlin to Broadway with Kurt Weill (Theatre Sheridan). Wayne serves on the faculty of Sheridan College and the Randolph Academy of Performing Arts as an accompanist and vocal coach. Originally from Saskatchewan, he is a graduate of the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Music.

Jennifer Triemstra, Set, Costume and Props Design
This is Jennifer’s second season at Smile Theatre and she is thrilled to be back. For Smile Theatre Jennifer has designed set and costumes for Beautiful Dreamer, Christmas Lillies, Honey Bun, Mona Parson, Two on a Twoonie, Sweethearts and Son of Remade in Canada. Recent credits include costume and set design for The Fairy Queen (Toronto Masque Theatre) and Iris the Dragon (Workman Theatre) and costume designs for The Ballad of Stompin’ Tom, Schoolhouse, The Thirteenth One and Test Drive (Blyth Festival), A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Tempest (Festival of Classics), Shadow Ball (AGO) and Sparta, Mercedes and In The Wings (Theatre Passe Muraille). Jennifer is part-time faculty at York and Ryerson Universities.

Alexa Carroll, Stage Manager
Radio Daze marks Alexa’s sixth engagement with Smile Theatre. She previously stage managed last season’s How to Get Rid of a Monster, as well as The Light in Winnie’s Window, The Ukulele Man, Bet Your Booties and Soldier of Fortune in the 1999-2000 season. Other selected credits include the hit Bella Donna at the 2005 Toronto Fringe, Moons and Mermaids and When Dinosaurs Dine By Moonlight for Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia, Desdemona: A Play About a Handkerchief for Portrait Productions, The Sea for Actors’ Repertory Company, The Chairs for Modern Times Stage Company, as well as Lysistrata, Assemblywomen! and Clouds: the Musical for the Ancient Comic Opera Company.
